ABSTRACT
This study examines employment procedure & its effect on productivity in government parastatal a case study of national board for technical education, Kaduna. Specifically, the study identifies the nature of recruitment and selection procedure used in the National Board for Technical Education, identifies individual personnel most likely to fulfill the requirements of the organization, identifies the source of recruitment and selection procedure and develops an effective employment procedure. The study employed the survey descriptive research design. A total of 141 responses were validated from the survey. The study adopted the classical theory of employment. From the responses obtained and analysed, the findings revealed that good employment procedure impact on productivity of staff in an organization. Furthermore, the findings revealed that good employment procedure brings about job specialization in an organization. The findings further revealed that certain recruitment sources are better than others, employment procedure have great effect on productivity and certain recruiting sources produce superior candidates. The study recommends that Organizations can use employment agencies in the act of recruitment and selection but should be open to disclose the job description and responsibility to enable them select best suitable candidates for them. The study further recommends that firms should consider employing through an active and committed employee recommendation as it enhances mentoring, monitoring, obedience and coaching among employees and thereby increase productivity of employees. It also makes work environment more friendly and enjoyable as workers work with friends because employees refer others like them.
